Clear Creek Golf will be located in the Badger Road area, east of Fort Wainwright at 1484 (7.5 mile) Old Richardson Highway- approximately ten minutes from both downtown Fairbanks and North Pole.
This project began with the idea of transforming 20 acres of fallow hay fields and a buffalo corral into a legacy nine-hole executive (mostly par 3) golf course.
Our goal is to provide about one third of our local population with a well-maintained and well drained golf course, free of permafrost sink holes that is close to home.
Golfers make about 65% of their score with short game skills that do not require tremendous swing speed nor physical ability. This is where juniors, women, men and seniors can become equals. We will provide an indoor practice facility to hone up pitching, chipping and putting skills during the dark and cold months. A small kitchen will serve pizza, tacos, salads and desserts in a family friendly atmosphere. Cross country ski trails will be available for winter enjoyment of the outdoors.
Steve Timm (www.timmgolfservices.com) has designed an exciting new course layout with all nine holes south of Clear Creek.
SYNLawn of Oregon (www.synlawn.com/oregon) will be installing high quality synthetic greens for an entire summer of consistent green speeds of 8-10 and extend golfing season an extra 6-8 weeks.
We have purchased the future club house, constructed a maintenance shop and fully restored our dump truck, loader-backhoe and bulldozer to perform necessary dirt work ourselves.
Our current strategy is to continue forest landscaping and constructing drainage improvements with completion of one hole at a time. Meanwhile a green manure crop is building up a thick layer of rich topsoil. This will help hold nutrients and moisture without any need for chemical fertilizer or irrigation on the fairways.
All expenditures to date have been made out of pocket with no debts incurred. The completion date is totally dependent upon the availability of our time, limited income and dry weather conditions to perform dirt work during Alaska's short construction seasons.
Clear Creek Golf will be a walking nine-hole course that will be fun, challenging, family friendly and affordable for the average golfer.
This is a work in progress! Check back for updates!
